The United Committee Manipur (UCM) in a press statement has said that the Tangkhuls living in the hills are considered to be the elder brother of Meetei settling in the valley.
The release stated that UCM’s visit to Sinakeithei was to spread the message of oneness and brotherhood as they considered the Tangkhuls are the elder brother of the Meiteis.
The aged old relationship between Meitei and Tangkhul is seen in Umang Lai Haoraoba of the Meteis. During Mera Wayungba performed by the Meeteis, the elder brother from the hills would bring items/things and exchanged with the brother in the valley. Such practices should not be forgotten by the present generation, added the release.
UCM in collaboration with Sirarakhong Sinakeithei Ringui (SISIRI) Farmers Society organised ‘Distribution of Urea cum COVID-19 Awareness Program’ at Sinakeithel village, Ukhrul on Wednesday.
Headman of Sinakeithei village V. Cannan Phungshin Zimik, president of UCM, Joychandra Konthoujam, vice-chairman of Sinakeithei village, Wungnaopam Machung and ayurvedic physician, Dr. Ritamadhuri attended the program as chief guest, guest of honour, president and resource person respectively.
UCM also assured to extend every possible help to the Sinakeithei villagers and its surrounding villages in the future.
UCM has a vision of increasing the production of the state wherein the products from the hills and valleys are exchange between the two and the surplus/excess products can be exported to develop the economy of the state, the statement said.
UCM appealed all section of the state to protect forest and lakes in the state so that climatic conditions of the State remained unaffected.
Condemning the murder of two persons from Sinakeithei village on August 4, UCM also appealed to the state government to find out the people involved in the murder.
