Awonshang N Horam’s interview with Hwangtale Shimprui: D/o Ningam Shimprui and Hongsha Moithang from Kasom Khullen. Her dad’s a teacher and Mom was too. She is the eldest of four children (one sister and two brothers). She stayed at Old Lambulane with her family.
You are in 17 position for science stream in 12th standard COHSEM 2020 as well as Chemistry topper in Manipur.
So lets hit on… here is the first question:
1. What percentage were you actually expecting?
Hwangtale (H): I usually topped and performed considerably well at school tests. So I was expecting about 94 %. Though i did well in science subjects, the low scores I obtained in Language papers really brought down my overall percentage, averaging at 85 marks.
2. In spite of your expectations, how do you feel after topping the examination in your community? I’m sure many tried but couldn’t achieve it.
H: I am very grateful to God personally. All glory belongs to Him. I believe it was His will to bless my hard work, family, teachers and friends put together.
3. What was your favorite subject and why?
H: Physics and Chemistry. These two subjects for me involve reasoning and careful examination. I like to think critically and I particularly enjoy the process of imagining. The abstract theories I’ve come to learn pushes my curiosity boundaries. Best put, science is the discovery of God’s mechanism as far as I’m concerned.
4. So, did you join any coaching classes for the exam preparation?
H: My school, Herbert, stresses on the importance of self study and as a result, we spend 9-10 hours on self study. The school owned hostel provides tuition by the school teachers, to aid us. Self study really works wonders.
5. Could you describe your daily time table for examination preparation.
H: I follow the hostel schedule. 3 hours in the morning from 5 am – Break – School for 6 hours – Break – Study for 3 hours – After dinner, study 1 hour – light off at 10 pm.
6. In spite of all those studies, how did you de-stress yourself ?
H: My circle of friends love sports. So we always play games together during break hours. Great way to de-stress. Basketball, race, badminton, throwball and things like that. We like vigorous games like kho kho too, strangely.
7. Who is your role model and why?
H: I like Richard Feynman. I honestly admire people with photographic memories. Like Briella and Nate, gifted children who appeared on the Ellen Show. I also like the fictional character, Sheldon Cooper. Basically what I am trying to say is that I try to be one. Its a hobby for me to read and I like to be ahead of my peers. I don’t have a specific role model. I like smart people.
8. Which career do you want to pursue and why?
H: I have been preparing for medical stream since class 11. I just like being helpful especially to people who need instant care and nursing. I find biology very interesting.
9. What advice would you give to students appearing for 12th examination next year in the new normal Covid 19 situation?
H: As Christians, we need to know that God alone is our help. I hope that they would place all their dreams in God’s hands. If God so wills, nothing can stop fulfilling His purpose for a person. I hope they know that God knows what is best for us. And so PRAYER!
Few tips if I may: 1. Loving your job as a student i.e. Studying 2. Pursuing peace of mind and body through good character and physical exercise. 3. Attentiveness! 4. Imagination (makes everything better) 5. Perseverance 6. Repetition of studying.
10. On a lighter note, tell me your favorite
