Manipur Government Circular on expressing views

UT News Service | Imphal, Aug 12: The Government of Manipur, Directorate of University and Higher Education in a memorandum issued dated August 10, directed Government college teachers, Government servants to abstain from criticizing the Government.

The government circular was directed to all Government college teachers and staffs working under the Higher Education Department to abstain from criticizing Central Government or State Government policies and programmes in media by any means of electronic media.

To that effect, Binalakshmi Nepram, Founder, Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network, Sean MacBride Peace Prize took to twitter terming the circular gagging freedom of speech in Manipur and questioned if the action taken by GOM impinge on other people’s rights in a democracy.
