Dimapur: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) said today that unless there is a free and fair election in Nagaland on polling day, its rival NDPP will “walk into the sunset with a stolen victory.”

In a statement today, RPP said, “Contrasted with the J.P. Nadda rally at Agri Expo in Dimapur where only a handful of people attended, the Congress rally in Dimapur where thousands of people participated has set in stone the fact that voter sentiments are with the Congress.”

“Be as it may be, unless there’s a free and fair election on polling day, the NDPP will walk into the sunset with a stolen victory for which it’ll be a great loss for the state,” RPP said. “And therefore, RPP calls upon all conscientious leaders to help prevent the mockery of democracy. The village GBs as the custodians of Naga customary laws and tradition should see to it that the great evil called the UCC as promised to be implemented by the RSS/BJP is repulsed with patriotic fervour but as stated it can only be done if there are free and fair elections in the state.” The Church leaders are also requested to see to it that their clarion call for clean elections is implemented in letter and spirit.

RPP then said it was deeply worried that this election would be stolen by the might of the state machinery. “The AICC team has already given a list of constituencies where probable booth capture may take place to CEO Nagaland, and it is with a great deal of anxiety that RPP is issuing this press release,” the statement added.

RPP also believes that the Naga people irrespective of political colours will rise to the occasion and help save democracy in the country.
