Tangkhul Naga jurisdiction ‘Free-zone’ from the prevailing ethnic violence

Ukhrul, May 13: The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has advised to all Tangkhul citizens that no individual, group or organisation should side with any party without the knowledge and sanction of the apex Tangkhul body in Manipur State.

A meeting was convened on Friday at the TNL Hall, Viewland zone II over the prevailing Manipur violence between the two communities.

TNL in the meeting issued a strict public advisory to all Tangkhuls that no one should write or comment anything on social media regarding the prevailing situation, other than the official statement from the office of the the Tangkhul apex body.

Warning any individual or village indulging in frisking or checking of any vehicle or passerby within the Tangkhul Naga jurisdiction will be dealt with under the constitutional provisions of the Long, TNL informed that the Tangkhul Naga areas is a free-zone from the current ethnic violence.

“Any person who acts against the directive will be dealt with seriously as deem fit by the apex Tangkhul body,” David A Shimray, TNL president said.

It is worth noting that Ukhrul and Kamjong districts in Manipur sends three legislators to the sixty seats in Manipur Legislative Assembly. The two districts consist predominantly of the Tangkhul Naga tribe. The two tribal chief ministers in the history of Manipur ever since it became a full-fledged State in 1972 were both Tangkhul Nagas.
