Victory of Congress’ S. Supongmeren Jamir, a New Era in Nagaland Politics: RPP

Ukhrul: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has extended its congratulations to the Congress party’s S. Supongmeren Jamir, their esteemed alliance partner, on his unprecedented electoral triumph securing a historic victory on June 4. The party also extended its gratitude to the people of Nagaland for electing the right person to represent them in India.

This victory RPP in its Wednesday’s press release said is etched in history as Mr. Jamir overcame the formidable opposition-less Rio government, which boasted 60 legislators and 2 MPs. Such a feat is unparalleled in India’s political annals.

“This victory belongs to the Naga people,” remarked RPP.

“Firstly, the people voted against 21 years of Rio’s misrule – even in Northern Angami-1, Rio’s constituency, the Congress received a massive 35% of the votes. This victory is also a referendum against the NDPP-BJP coalition. Right thinking voters came out in full force to defeat the Coalition candidate who represented the corruption and the misrule that has come to characterize this opposition-less government. Secondly, the wise people of Nagaland voted against the Hindutva agenda of the BJP for which no further elaboration is required,” RPP stated.

it then said that a new era has dawned in Nagaland politics. This election was unique in that, despite the ruling government pouring in substantial financial resources, voters stood firm on principles, sweeping aside even the entrenched tribalism in favor of Mr. Jamir.

Taking a jibe on the ruling government in the state, RPP stated that the NDPP-BJP coalition has utterly lost the people’s mandate. Were it not for the threat of halting developmental works by those in power, the victory margin would have been even more substantial. Ultimately, the same force that propelled S. Supongmeren Jamir to power will likely manifest in the next assembly elections. It’s only a matter of time, added RPP.

RPP also wished Mr. Jamir all the best in his new assignment representing Nagaland in the Lok Sabha.
