Imphal: Former Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh on Sunday expressed hope that the Governor will do justice in the issue of the parliamentary secretaries.

The Solicitor General of India had recently assured the Supreme Court that the Manipur Governor will take a decision soon on the opinion given by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the office of profit issue.

The case was related with a writ petition filed by Congress MLA DD Thaisii in the Supreme Court, seeking disqualification of the 12 MLAs on the ground that they were holding the posts of Parliamentary Secretaries, which amounted to “office of profit”.

“I hope the Governor will not delay further in taking a decision in the interest of delivering justice,” the former three times chief minister of the state said.

Ibobi Singh was talking to reporters on the sideline of a function held at Imphal Congress Bhavan to mark the 132nd birth anniversary of first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

He said that as it is a matter of court, Congress expected that pertinent authorities will abide by the order of the court in the interest of justice.

On another query from the reporters, the former CM said that Congress is looking on what action can be taken against MLA Yamthong Haokip and MLA RK Imo who recently joined the BJP.

He said that Congress has a strong faith in rule of law besides having its firm principle and ideology. “So, Congress will not act hastily in this regard,” he added.
