Two Kuki-Zo tribal brutally killed; CoTU calls Emergency Shutdown in Kangpokpi distt

Kangpokpi: In yet another episode of the ongoing vicious violence in Manipur, two persons belonging to the Kuki-Zo tribe were shot dead in Kangpokpi district on Monday at around 10 am.

According to the Committee on Tribal Unity, the two Kuki-Zo villagers were attacked and brutally killed by Meitei insurgents. The place where the two were killed is close to Konsakhul, Leilon, Haraothel, Koutruk and Kharam.

The deceased persons have been identified as Henminlen Vaiphei, son of Luntinlal Vaiphei of Leimakhong Mission Veng and Thangminlun Hangsing, son of Lunkhongam Hangsing of khunkho village.

The Committee on Tribal Unity in the aftermath of the killing “strongly condemns the unprovoked attack by the war mongering Meitei insurgents.”

In an emergency meeting held at Kanggui today, CoTU has declared an emergency shutdown in Kangpokpi district.

CoTU in a press note on Monday said that the emergency shutdown in Kangpokpi district is to convey the Union Government that it is no longer safe under partisan [Manipur] Government.

The Kangpokpi district Kuki-Zo civil body pointed out “if the repeated appeals of the Kuki-Zo community had been heard by the Union Home Ministry, series of unfortunate incident could have been avoided.

It further said the Union Home Ministry must take into account the continuous attacks and that political separation is the only option left now.

The emergency meeting calls for an early materialisation of the demand for “separation from Manipur,” CoTU added.

Press, emergencies and CoTU units will be exempted from the shutdown.
