Ukhrul: The Committee on Tribal Unity has called for a 12-hour “Total Shutdown” in the entire Sadar Hills Kangpokpi for what is it is calling an “unprovoked attack at Kangchup Bethel area by the secessionist Meitei terrorist and the Arambai Tenggol along with the tactical and logistical support of the state police which has resulted in the death of one of our Kuki-Zo Village Volunteer.”

The Kuki-Zo person is identified as Lammang Kipgen who the CoTU stated “defended our village till his last breath.”

The Committee on Tribal Unity, offering its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family further stated that it will lay the mortal remains of Lammang Kipgen at Martyr Cemetery at Phaijang at 1 PM Sunday afternoon, on behalf of the Kuki-Zo kindred community.

The escalating bout of fresh tensions among the rival groups in the recent week suggests a tit for tat attack and counter attacks in the few adjoining areas of the valley and hills. Body of a Meitei person, identified as Laishram Bomcha, also known as Prem (aged 32) was found, hours after he went missing, on April 27 (Saturday) following heavy exchange of fire between Kuki and Meitei armed groups at Sinam Kom area under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East District on Friday.

Additionally, in a first since the outbreak of May 3, 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur, Sub Inspector N. Sarkar and Head Constable Arup Saini of the 128th Battalion CRPF lost their lives in a bomb attack carried out by armed groups at their post located at the 2nd IRB Battalion Camp in Naransena Maning under Moirang Police Station in the early hours of Saturday.
