Manipur University students protest against non-disbursement of scholarships

Imphal: Students of Manipur University on Wednesday protested at the main entrance gate of the university, demanding immediate disbursement of their scholarships.

While condemning the non-disbursement of the scholarships for a long time, the students alleged that it amounted to suppressing the rights of the students.

Talking to reporters during the protest, Oinam Premdas, a third semester student in political science alleged that they were not getting the scholarships since the disbursement of the scholarships was handled by the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Earlier, it was dealt by the Minority and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) department of the state government

Since the NSP took over the disbursement of the scholarships from the 2021-22 session, the students were not getting the scholarships, he alleged.

As the students applying for the scholarships were mostly from the underprivileged classes, they are facing hardships in pursuing the study, Premdas also said.

The students have pressed the concerned authorities including the MOBC department to disburse the scholarships considering the plights of the students, he said.
