Ukhrul: The ninth edition of the North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) commenced in Dimapur, Nagaland, with over 150 youth leaders from across the Northeast participating. The three-day event aims to inspire and equip young leaders to engage with global and regional challenges, improve their public speaking skills, and bring regional cooperation.
Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, Founder of Tipra Motha Party and Member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, delivered a keynote address on indigenous identities and cross-border security challenges. He highlighted the shared histories of indigenous communities and called for a collective national approach to managing immigration issues. He also advocated for enhanced trade and legal cross-border exchanges.
The event’s Youth Town Hall, under the theme “Empowering Youth for Peace, Economic Development, and Inclusive Diplomacy,” featured discussions on social, geopolitical, and governance challenges in Northeast India. Moderated by Deep Shankar Nath, the panel included speakers like Lungleng, a development professional and media personality, who emphasized critical thinking in navigating misinformation.
Ms. Sole Tep, Deputy Chairperson of Tseminyu Town Council, encouraged young people to get involved in decision-making bodies, while Mr. Moasunep K. Jingru, EAC at Kohima, urged the youth to focus on economic policies and financial literacy to drive regional development.

NEIMUN Secretary-General Ms. Nikila Sogya from Sikkim welcomed participants, stressing the importance of youth leadership in shaping the region’s future. Zubeni Ngullie, an Executive Board Member, reflected on NEIMUN’s role in empowering the youth over the years.
The conference will continue over the next two days, offering sessions on sustainable development and equipping youth to become agents of change in Northeast India.
