Ukhrul: Two prominent Tangkhul youth leaders died in a fatal car accident near the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong District, Ukhrul, Manipur, while on duty as part of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) “Reconnaissance Mission” team to assess the implications of the abrogation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).
The tragic deaths of Themmaso Tallanao, President of Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), and Masothing Mungshon, Assistant General Secretary of TMNL, have shocked the entire community.
The Central Government’s decision to fence the Indo-Myanmar border is being strongly opposed by the Nagas. Historically, the Nagas have always moved freely across the Indo-Myanmar border despite their land being divided and placed under two separate administrations—India and Myanmar. The attempt to erect border fences in the region is being met with strong resistance by the Nagas, who view it as an infringement on their rights and freedoms.
On October 23, 2024, the Nagas in the Indo-Myanmar border area stopped the entry of a Border Survey Team that was on its way to survey the region.
