Tamenglong, November 8, 2024 (DIPR): Eleven Amur falcons were released today at Chiuluan Village. The falcons were captured by a team from the Tamenglong Forest Division and local volunteers under the guidance of Dr. Suresh Kumar, Scientist F, Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, at the Chiuluan roosting site. This research initiative is part of a program supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Government of India.

Two of the Amur falcons were tagged with satellite transmitters and named “Chiuluan2” and “Guangram” with the approval of Anurag Bajpai, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, Manipur. The names Chiuluan2 and Guangram refer to significant roosting sites for Amur falcons in Tamenglong District, Manipur.
The tagged falcons were released by the Divisional Forest Officer, Tamenglong, Kh. Hitler Singh, in the presence of Dr. Suresh Kumar, Joel Gangmei (RFO Tamenglong), the Chairman and members of the Chiuluan Village Authority, Rainforest Club Tamenglong members, and staff of the Tamenglong Forest Division.

In addition to the two satellite-tagged falcons, two other falcons named “Riangsuanei” and “Laisana,” ringed with contact information (pfa.manipur@gmail.com), were also released, along with the remaining seven falcons. All eleven Amur falcons were ringed with BNHS tags, numbered C58352 to C58362.
