HPFA Clinches Third Consecutive Title in Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao Football Championship

Ukhrul, Feb 27: Defending champion Hunphun Phungcham Football Association (HPFA) defended their title for three consecutive years.

In the final match played today at Ukhrul Headquarters, HPFA defeated Semka FC with a score of 4-0 to defend their title in the 11th edition of Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao Football Championship 2025. Rungsing Muinao, Captain of HPFA scored 9 goals in the tournament and was awarded the best scorer title. Wungnaorei Awungshi, goalkeeper of HPFA was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament. He maintained a clean sheet through the entire tournament without allowing any goals to be scored against them.

The closing ceremony was attended by the son of Late Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao, John Khathing Ralengnao and his better half Shanti Khathing Ralengnao, President of TNL, Sword Vashum, Deputy IG, IGAR (S), Brigadier Neeraj Sharma, DIG of 10 Sector Somsai, Brigadier Sandeep Singh, Commandant of 18 Assam Rifles, Colonel Manish Kadian among others.

To commemorate the 113th birth anniversary of Maj Bob Khathing Ralengnao, the 18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 10 Sector, Somsai organised a series of sports events at Ukhrul Headquarters.

In fond memory of the legendary personality, Late. Major Bob Khathing Relengnao, the Assam Rifles conceptualised the commemorative event in the year 2013 to honour the man who brought Tawang under the Indian Administration without any bloodshed in the year 1951.

The popularity and magnitude of the celebrations has evoked healthy participation with a total of 8 teams participating in the 11th edition of Men’s football, 5 teams in the 10th edition of Women’s Volleyball and 5 teams in the 5th edition of Baby League (under 6-12 years age category). The performance by famous Tangkhul artist, Winso Chamroy and 18 Elite Band added more colour to the celebration.
