The Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone, Manipur, has urged the Kangpokpi district administration to revoke the imposition of 144 CrPC in Thonglang Atongba village jurisdiction “immediately”.
The Council demanded this by writing to the deputy commissioner of Kangpokpi on Friday.
The Liangmai body also demanded the deputy commissioner of Kangpokpi to cancel “village status given to the Nepali blocks” in Irang Part-One and Part-Two “as they are not recognized in official records”.
According to the Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone, Manipur, its team had visited the area to assess the situation on January 20, 2021. “Upon enquiry, it was observed that the imposed curfew was uncalled for as it had created a sense of panic and tension to the public,” the Council said, adding, “Otherwise, the situation is quite peaceful in the area”.
The Liangmai body, therefore, urged the “esteemed authority to positively respond to our demand within 48 hours, failing of which the Council shall be compelled to initiate stringent forms of agitations till our charter of demands are fulfilled”.
