Imphal: The Excise Station in Sapormeina in Manipur, in connection with the 18th Lok Sabha Election in 2024, took action against the illegal sale and consumption of excisable articles in Kangpokpi District. In collaboration with the Kangpokpi District Police Department, they executed a crackdown on various brands of Excisable Articles, including Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and illicit country liquor (DIC), as per the provisions of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991.
The Office-in-charge of Excise Station in Sapormeina stated that under the leadership of Mangkhojang Haokip, Officer-in-Charge at Sapormeina, and under the watchful eye of the Commissioner of Excise, the team carried out operations resulting in the confiscation and subsequent destruction of significant quantities of illegal liquor.
A total of 3,579 litres of Country Liquor (DIC) and 99.17 litres of IMFL were seized and subsequently destroyed. The estimated market value of the destroyed liquor amounts to approximately Rs 4,11,302 (four lakh eleven thousand three hundred and two) in the local market, the Excise station report stated.
Further, the report from the Excise Station in Sapormeina stated that the disposal of these excisable articles occurred at the Sapormeina Excise Station at 12 PM on Wednesday in Sapormeina under the legal provisions outlined in Section 69 of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991. It also stated that officials from the Kangpokpi District Police, representatives from the media, and members of the public were present.
