Two Black Fungus cases detected in Manipur

Health department, Manipur reported Tuesday of two Black Fungus, Mucormycosis cases detected following Covid-19 infection in two separate hospitals in Manipur. A 45-year-old male from Imphal West at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and a 46-year-old male from Imphal West at Shija hospital Imphal. This is the first case of Black Fungus reported in the state.

Health department directed all hospitals, health centres and clinics to report such cases, failing which may attract actions under the current epidemic act, the order said.

CELIN DIGITAL, a unit of the Centre for Electronic Industry, on May 23 urged the Government to release precautionary measures that need to be taken up in the wake of increasing cases of ‘Black Fungus’ in the country, according to a report in The Sangai Express. It reported that Health Departments and other concerned departments should ensure that all necessary precautions and care to be taken up to prevent people from contracting the disease are issued to the public in advance, added the statement.

Manipur reported 798 fresh Covid-19 cases with 18 deaths on Tuesday. Adding 629 patients who were discharged upon recovery in the same period, the recovered tally also rose to 41,782, leaving the state’s active case at 8,942.

Manipur has so far vaccinated 388761 according to Health department.
