WTR Seizes and Disposes Banned Cough Syrup

Ukhrul, February 16: The policing cell of Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) on Sunday seized and disposed of banned cough syrup worth Rs 7.5 lakh at the WTR Office, Harkuikathe, Ukhrul.

Central Administrative Officer of Wung Tangkhul Region, Samson Jajo, informed that “a team of the WTR Policing Cell conducted a routine search at Ukhrul Town and seized banned cough syrup from one pharmacy. Based on this input, the main supplier was apprehended on Friday.”

It is learned that the consignment was transported from Dimapur to Ukhrul. Altogether, 1,500 bottles of banned cough syrup, such as Triroz-C, Dialex-DC, Cadifos-T, COF-Trex, including Cyclotas tablets, and 50 grams of opium, were also confiscated along with the syrup.

The cough syrup contains high levels of codeine phosphate and triprolidine hydrochloride. The banned cough syrup items were reportedly sold at Rs 500 per bottle in Ukhrul Town.

The CAO of WTR urged the public to extend their cooperation and warned that stern actions would be initiated against any defaulters. The arrested persons were penalized and required to sign an undertaking that they would not engage in such illegal business in the future.
