UKHRUL: A joint team of Manipur Police from Maram Police Station and the Assam Rifles seized suspected opium weighing over 10 kg and arrested three individuals during an operation on Tuesday.
Acting on specific intelligence, the joint team set up a surprise naka at Naojai. During the operation, a Gypsy vehicle without a registration number was intercepted about 3 km east of Maram. Upon inspection, a substance suspected to be opium was detected inside the vehicle.
The vehicle was searched in the presence of a magistrate, during which approximately 10.63 kg of suspected opium was recovered from the car.
The driver, identified as Yaronso Ramsan (26), and the co-passenger, Shunreingam Khayi (37), were arrested on the spot.
In an attempt to apprehend the intended receiver of the contraband, the arrested individuals were taken by a team led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Senapati, who were in civilian attire, to carry out a controlled operation to complete the transaction. During the process, K Lucy (43) was apprehended as the alleged intended recipient of the drugs.
A case has been registered at Maram Police Station, and further investigation and necessary legal action are currently underway.
