109 new COVID cases detected in Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 3: As many as 109 people have tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday in Meghalaya which included two health workers which now takes the total active COVID-19 cases in the state to 1,220.

During his daily briefing on the COVID-19 status in Meghalaya today, the Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman Warr said that 78, including 68 civilians and 10 armed forces and paramilitary forces were detected from East Khasi Hills district, 15 from West Garo Hills district, 13 from Ri Bhoi district, 2 from South Garo Hills district and 1 from West Jaintia Hills district.

He said that the new cases in East Khasi Hills include 63 are high risk cases, 2 health workers, 2 influenza like illness (ILI) cases, 1 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) case, in Ri Bhoi, 6 are returnees, 6 are high risk cases and 1 ILI case, while in West Garo Hills, 6 are high risk cases, 8 are AF/PF personnel and 1 returnee and three are truck drivers of which two are from South Garo Hills and 1 from West Jaintia Hills.

He also informed that the cases related to the two health workers from Mawlai Nonglum and Jail road were detected during the random testing at Khyndailad area.

He said both legislators and those residing at the MLA hostel were also tested during random testing and results are being awaited.

Stating that a total 69 cases are presently treated in the different hospitals, he said 25 patients are from the Shillong civil hospital, 10 from the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), 16 from Reid Chest TB hospital, 9 from Tura civil hospital, 3 from Ampati and 6 from Resubelpara.

Dr Warr also informed that a total of 75 persons (58 from East Khasi Hills, 12 from West Garo Hills, 4 from North Garo Hills and 1 from West Khasi Hills), have recovered from the viral infection, taking the total recoveries in the state to 1,393. 

So far, the state has recorded a total of 2,626 positive cases of which 1,220 are active and 13 have died due to the disease.

Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has the highest total number of positive cases at 833 that includes 660 civilians and 173 AF/PF personnel, followed by West Garo Hills with 121 cases, 84 in Ri Bhoi, 83 in East Garo Hills, 44 in West Khasi Hills, 23 in East Jaintia Hills, 21 in South Garo Hills, 5 in North Garo Hills, 3 each in West Jaintia Hills and South West Garo Hills

As of today, a total of 93,817 have been tested, of which 90,516 were found to be negative and test results of 675 are awaited. There are 33, 009 entrants from outside the state.
