Despite the clamping of curfew to help curb the surging coronavirus infections, Manipur’s COVID-19 death toll crossed 600-mark on Tuesday with 20 more persons succumbing to COVID-19 complications in the past 24 hours.
Manipur Health department reported 20 deaths attributed to COVID-19 related complications and 624 more infections in the last 24 hours, taking the fatality tally to 612 and infection caseload to 40,683 on Tuesday.
This is the second time the highest single day death cases of 20 was reported in the state since the outbreak of the dreaded viral disease March last year. An equal number of fatalities was recorded on May 11 last.
Adding 337 discharges, the recovery tally of the state also rose to 33,466. The state has currently 6,605 active cases with 82.26% recovery rate against previous day’s 82.72%.
Imphal East district where 129 fresh cases were reported, nine persons who were diagnosed with the viral infections expired due to health complications in the past 24 hours.
In Imphal West district where a maximum number of 270 fresh cases were reported, COVID-19 claimed five more lives and two fatalities reported in Churachandpur even as one each was recorded in Senapati, Thoubal and Ukhrul districts.
An analysis of today’s data showed detection of a higher number of new infections in the curfew-bound districts with 43 in Thoubal, 67 in Bishnupur, 32 in Kakching, 43 in Churachandpur and seven in Ukhrul district.
Chandel district where no complete curfew was imposed recorded the highest single-day spike with 18 even as four new cases registered in Noney, three in Senapati and two each in other remaining three districts.
Meanwhile, with 3,201 samples tested in the past 24 hours, a total of 6,66,280 samples have been tested in the state till date.
As per the latest information of the state health department, the number of persons vaccinated in the state was 3,18,586.
