Five persons succumbs to COVID-19 in Meghalaya, active cases crosses 3000 mark

Five more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday taking the death toll to 233 in Meghalaya.

The active cases have also crossed the 3,000 mark after 409 more persons have tested positive for the viral infection, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.

Dr War said new cases include 202 in East Khasi Hills district, 128 Ri Bhoi, 25 West Garo Hills, 20 West Jaintia Hills, 19 East Jaintia Hills, 6 West Khasi Hills, 6 South Garo Hills and 3 South West Garo Hills.  

He informed that of 241 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 173 are from East Khasi Hills, 21 Ri Bhoi, 15 East Garo Hills, 12 West Garo Hills, 11 West Jaintia Hills, 4 East Jaintia Hills, 4 South West Khasi Hills and 1 South Garo Hills.

So far, the state has detected a total of 20,129 COVID-19 cases out of which 3,062 are active cases, 16,834 recovered and 233 deaths.

With 1,749 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 459 cases, 247 West Garo Hills, 126 West Khasi Hills, 134 East Jaintia Hills, 120 in West Jaintia Hills, 81 South West Garo Hills, 55 South Garo Hills, 38 East Garo Hills, 36 North Garo Hills and 17 South West Khasi Hills.

On the other hand, of the 4,87,843 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,67,714 were tested negative for the virus even as 682 persons are in institutional quarantine and 2,380 under home quarantine.

There are 1,16,952 entrants from outside the state.

26,979 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,107 had received the second dose, while 57,382 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,965 got the second dose as on Monday.

Moreover, 1,96,684 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 24,340 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
