Meghalaya records 627 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours

As many as 627 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday in Meghalaya even as 12 people succumbed to the viral infection on the day. With this, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the state has crossed the 4,000-mark.

Eleven deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district and one from West Garo Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.

Dr War said new cases include 361 in East Khasi Hills, 101 Ri Bhoi, 55 West Jaintia Hills, 38 West Garo Hills, 24 West Khasi Hills, 23 South West Garo Hills, 18 East Jaintia Hills, 5 East Garo Hills, 1 North Garo Hills and 1 South West Khasi Hills.

He informed that of 327 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 221 are from East Khasi Hills, 37 West Garo Hills, 34 Ri Bhoi, 10 West Khasi Hills, 8 East Jaintia Hills, 7 North Garo Hills, 6 South West Garo Hills, 3 West Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills.

So far, a total of 22,203 Covid-19 cases have been detected in the state out of which 4,014 are active cases, 17,909 recovered while there have been 280 deaths.

With 2,251 active Covid-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, which includes Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 568 cases.

There are 352 cases in West Garo Hills, 198 West Jaintia Hills, 167 East Jaintia Hills, 154 South West Garo Hills, 138 West Khasi Hills, 64 South Garo Hills, 63 East Garo Hills, 42 North Garo Hills and 17 South West Khasi Hills.

On the other hand, of the 5,01,466 persons who have undergone Covid-19 testing in the state as on date, 4,79,263 were tested negative for the virus even as 778 persons are in institutional quarantine and 3,236 under home quarantine.

There are 1,17,946 entrants from outside the state.

27,838 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,345 had received the second dose, while 70,980 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,330 got the second dose as of today.

Moreover, 2,14,232 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 27,724 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 across the state.
