The state government of Meghalaya has come up with an additional 400 beds as back-up mechanism for effectively tackling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the government has reviewed the bed capacity throughout the state during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
“The back-up mechanism for the bed capacity is also ready at IIM, Shillong with 300 beds and Umsawli with 100 beds,” he said.
Tynsong said 100 of the total beds in IIM, Shillong will be equipped with oxygen concentrators and 40 beds with oxygen concentrators at Umsawli.
Asked, the deputy chief minister said as of today, the bed capacity in Meghalaya is more or less manageable.
On Tuesday, East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner Isawanda Laloo had stated that hospitals are reporting saturation of beds including ICU facilities in view of the uncontrollable surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in the district.
