A three day long World Environment Day 2021 program held under the theme “Ecosystem Restoration” with strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs, concluded in Tamenglong on Sunday.
Under the program organised by Tamenglong Forest Division and District Administration Tamenglong, tree plantation drive was held at Tamenglong Lower Ground on June 5. ADM Tamenglong Kajagai Gangmei, Addl SP Kartik IPS, SDO Tamenglong Paul Nangsha, SDPO Josiah Panmei, Hony Wildlife Warden Nehemiah Panmei, RFO Joel Gangmei and members of Rainforest Club Tamenglong attended the program.
Ceremonial Function of World Environment Day was held through online. Online webinar was jointly conducted by The Corbett Foundation supported by Indigo Airline, Mangolnganbi College, Rainforest Club Tamenglong and Indian Bird Conservation Network. During the online event, Dr.Birjit Principal of Mangolnganbi College gave a short speech on the importance of conservation of ecosystem. He encouraged the students to spread awareness among their friends circle and family as once these animals get extinct, there won’t be any in future.
Several competition were also conducted including photography competition, paintings, songs, placards and monoplay. About 100 people attended the online event including 23 students who joined the competition.
In the concluding day of the program, June 6, the day was observed as Green Sunday. As a part of Green Sunday, Vice President Rainforest Club Tamenglong, Jaojianlung Riamei, gave a sermon on broadcast live on Youtube channel of Rainforest Club Tamenglong.
In observation of World Environment Day, several other Departments, CSO and Students Union also carried out plantation drive in different places in the district.
