Landslide Disrupts Traffic in Noney District, Road Clearance Underway

Tamenglong, May 31: A massive landslide has struck the Awangkhul area between Nungkao and New Kaiphundai in Noney and Tamenglong districts, disrupting road movement.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning amid incessant rains, has led to large volumes of earth and debris cascading onto the roadway at milestone 72 (MS 72), effectively cutting off traffic.

Sources say road clearance operations have been launched by the authority with earthmovers and work crews engaged in clearing the affected stretch, but continue to face delays due to the continued sliding of debris and persistent rainfall in the area.

Several such landslides have been reported across Manipur state, both in the hills and valley with reports of flood and landslides since May 30, 2025.
