UT News Service | Kohima, August 5: Richard Yanthan, the 25-year-old who secured all India Rank of 133 at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination 2019, on August 4, while speaking briefly to DD News Kohima shares about himself, his plans for the near future. Richard Yanthan is the only cadre from Nagaland in a span of 13 years, who cleared the examination in his second attempt after Kesonyu Yhome, IAS, 2007 Nagaland Cadre, bringing laurels to the state of Nagaland. Richard is a BTech graduate in civil engineering from Guwahati. Richard admiringly puts God above all and his mother for being the pillar of support for his success.
The Chief Minister of Nagaland congratulated Richard Yanthan after the result was declared.
Richard made two very important observations. One being asked on what his message for the Naga youths who find it challenging to crack UPSC exam, he said, “I don’t feel that UPSC civil service exam is a very tough exam. But due to the limited number of post and the huge talent pool of resources that is drawn towards this post makes it more difficult. Putting extra effort, being consistent, persevere and hard work till the very end”, he said “will lend you the job either at the union level or state level”.
The other important question asked on how he wanted to bring changes in Nagaland, he responded, “I would like to make governance more citizen centric, ushering in good governance would be one of my key priority. Make government offices and (staffs) more people friendly”. He added, “I would want government officials to attend office hours regularly and help make accessing of government materials much simpler and easier for the common people”.
Richard Yanthan, cleared Nagaland Public Service Commission securing the 7th rank in his first attempt in 2018 and was deputed as the Deputy Resident Commissioner (DRC) at the Nagaland House in Delhi since mid June of 2019.
