Imphal: Manipur People’s Party (MPP) on Friday said that politicians switching from one party to another while the elections are knocking at the door has defamed the democracy in the state.

Addressing a press conference today in Imphal, intending candidates of MPP called these politicians as “political prostitutes”. They also said that such politicians have destroyed the state.

“All the problems and crises witnessed in the state are all created by political prostitutes,” one intending candidate Chingtham Luwang said.

Asserting that they are new in the political field and have no “political colour”, he urged intending candidates of other political parties not to mislead the people with false propaganda against them.

“Let us fight the elections in the true spirit of democracy. Let the voters be allowed to choose candidates of their choice,” he said.

MPP is one of the oldest regional political parties of the northeast. The party founded in 1968 was very popular and had even formed governments on two occasions.

However, after it secured five in the 60-seat in the elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2007, the party had not been able to win a single seat till date.

Despite the downfall, the party had already declared fielding its candidates in the upcoming elections to the state Assembly.
