Kohima: Nagaland today observed 59th Statehood Day at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.
Nagaland got its statehood on December 1, 1963.
Addressing the celebration, chief minister Neiphiu Rio said that this year’s celebrations also coincide with the ongoing nationwide celebrations to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and the great achievement of its people.
He said that the state government is committed to take all necessary steps for all round development and to ensure that our people are provided with the best opportunities for growth and progress.
Rio appealed to the people to come forward and join hands with the government in its effort to usher in a new era of peace, development and progress.
Earlier, Nagaland DGP T. John Longkumer reviewed the parade.
Chief minister Neiphiu Rio took salute from eight march past contingents- 4th NAP Bn, DEF Kohima, STF, 9th NAP (IR) Bn, 13th NAP(IR)Bn, 15th NAP(IR) Mahila Bn, NPTS Brass Band, 15th NAP(IR) Mahila Pipe Band and addressed the celebration.
He also launched Nipun Bharat Mission in Nagaland. Later he inaugurated the photography exhibition on glimpses of Nagaland.
The march past was led by Parade Commander Dr. Kupe Kapfo Deputy Commandant NAPTC Dr. Kupe Kapfo and Medemkala, Asst Commandant 15th NAP(IR) Bn as second-in- command.
The celebration witnessed Gael Musical presentation by NPTS Brass Band 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Pipe Band, cultural performances by Ao, Rengma and Khiamniungan tribes and song and dance by Task Force for Music & Arts.
