The Global Naga Forum (GNF) in an statement today said it supports Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation and United Naga Council’s call to boycott the Indian Republic Day celebrations on January 26 for the reasons they stated in their recent communiques.
Both the Naga civil society organizations had on Friday reminded the Nagas of Manipur and Nagaland to abstain from participation in the forthcoming Indian republic day celebrations.
UNC in its statement Friday, said the recent massacre of Naga youths at Oting village, Mon district, Nagaland state is yet again a barbaric display of genocide and an undeclared war against the Nagas by the Indian Army under the cover of the AFSPA Act, 1958.
ENPO said that it stand firm on its December 14, 2021 resolution to “extend non-cooperation to the Indian security forces” till justice was delivered to the families of the gruesome killings of innocent civilians in Oting village under Mon district by the Indian security forces in particular, and the Nagas in general.
GNF stated the reason why it stands in solidarity with ENPO and UNC is based on the conviction that justice must be delivered. “Until then, and as long as AFSPA remains in force in our homeland, innocent civilians remain potential victims of brutal killings like the ones in Oting. No sane, right thinking people would celebrate the Republic Day of the country that gives its Armed forces a legal licence to kill civilians with impunity,” it added.
