Shillong: A 30-member team from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, has started its investigation into the recent collapse of the dome of the new Meghalaya Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong Township.
Informing this in Shillong today, the Minister-in-charge of PWD (Buildings), Dasakhiat Lamare said that officials from the IIT, Guwahati, along with the chief engineer and executive engineer of the department had visited the site on Saturday last.
He said they are preparing their team and equipment for conducting the audit of the under-construction new building of the Assembly.
“Technically speaking, they have started the investigation into the incident to find out the reason that led to the collapse of the dome structure. A team of 30 people will be conducting the audit,” Lamare said while informing that he will have a meeting with the team tomorrow.
The minister informed that the IIT, Guwahati, has asked for one month’s time to submit its report to the state government. “Since it is very sensitive, I feel we should not pressure them too much and instead give them reasonable time to conduct the audit as what we want is the most genuine report. They have promised us to complete the audit within a very short span of time,” he added.
Lamare said that further action will be taken based on the audit report as he warned that the state government will take stern action if the report suggests that the reason was due to the contractor who is implementing the project.
