Kamjong: As many as 80 pigs and piglets in a piggery reportedly died of African swine fever located at Grihang village in Kamjong district.
According to a report, the district administration on Wednesday declared outbreak of the African swine fever. Deputy commission of Kamjong district, Rangnamei Rang Peter declared 1 km radius around the piggery as Infected Zone and 10 km radius from the spot of the piggery as Surveillance Zone in an order.
In view of the report by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, government of Manipur said that preventive measures such as disinfection, sanitisation, restriction on carrying of live pigs, pig feed, pork and pork products, as well as surveillance by task forces have been put in place.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long, the apex body of the Tangkhul tribe in Ukhrul district has banned the sale or transport of pig products in the district, including Kamjong district, effective June 2, 2022 until further orders.
Outbreak of African swine fever has been reported in Imphal East, Thoubal districts. Longleng district of Nagaland and in the surrounding areas also reported of the African swine fever in May 2022. As such, the Nagaland government has taken up immediate measures.
