Imphal: The Rongmei Naga People’s Organization (RNPO) and the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) clarified today that “the Rongmei people” are not a party to the claim of the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), the Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), the Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and the Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) that the latter organisations “have endorsed the ‘Agreed Position’ signed between the Government of India and the Working Committee of the NNPGs”.

In a joint statement today, the RNPO and the RNCM said, “If the media reports are to be believed, the Zeliangrong civil organizations, namely the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) have endorsed the ‘Agreed Position’ signed between the Government of India and the Working Committee of the NNPGs”. The RNPO and the RNCM said that they were constrained to issue this clarification that the Rongmei people are not a party to the endorsement as claimed by the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), the Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), the Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and the Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur).

“Let the world know once again that the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme people are no longer represented by the Zeliangrong organizations,” the RNPO and the RNCM also stated. They further said that only a handful of individuals represent the “so called Zeliangrong organizations hence they are but in the doldrums”. The RNPO and the RNCM added that the endorsement of the ‘Agreed Position’ by these “so called Zeliangrong organisations” as published in some sections of the media on June 9 and June 10, 2022 “is nothing but a farce and a media gimmick”.
