Delhi: Guru Rewben Mashangva, also known as the father of Naga folk blues is among the plethora of performing artists to join the unique and eagerly anticipated Tribalhood Festival to bring in his original folk blues on July 9, only at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri, New Delhi. Guru will be joined by his son, Saka Mashangva.
Guru Rewben Mashangva who was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award, India’s 4th highest civilian award, Padma Shri 2021 for his distinguished service in Arts, carries with him the message of Peace and Culture in his distinct music genre. Weaving traditional Tangkhul folk into guitar riffs, influenced by Bob Dylan’s from his early age, Guru’s unique Naga folk music spreads beyond the barrier of politics and racial boundaries.
Guru Mashangva was honoured with an award by Manipur state Kala Akademi in 2005 for his commendable contribution toward Tribal Culture, and certificate for training “Shishyas” in Tangkhul Naga Folk Song, 2004-2006, under the Guru Shishya Parampara of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and accolades such as North East Excellence Award by Indian Chamber of Commerce, 2009, in recognition of his innate musical mastery and knowledge of Naga Folk Music, and National Tribal Award by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for his contribution in the field of Tribal Art and Culture, 2011-12. He has been invited to Woodstock School, University of Hyderabad and even to the National School of Drama, New Delhi to perform as well to exhort on his works in academic platforms for folk culture and folk knowledge.

Tribalhood Festival, the first edition of many festivals is aimed to boost the morale of North East (NE) talented artistes and performers in the national capital. The festival is organized by VAY Entertainment, a team of three individuals with big plans to evolve the North East festival into a vibrant hotspot for public and artists convergence over the years to come.
The festival will offer high notes of musical treat from renowned artists from the region from hip hop RnB powerhouse like DJ Karma, Sunep Lemtur, Retrosonic a Delhi based alternative rock band, Yanger Toshi, Imna Yaden, Somaya Rumthao and a lot more exciting artists’ lineup.
The larger purpose of Tribalhood Festival, VAY Entertainment says is to create a platform for the artist and also for the curators in music industry to collaborate and create a springboard to find the next big star, as well as to usher in opportunity for NE artists to promote their work in helping sync with mainstream and mainland artists and audiences alike. The festival is supported by Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER) and Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland.
