Delhi: The first edition of Tribalhood Festival 2022, aimed at bringing together Northeast folks in the capital to celebrate together the diverse and colourful region, home away from home, is all set to kick off on July 9 at Dilli Haat, Janakpuri supported by Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER) and Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland.

Tribalhood Festival, unlike other Northeast festivals in Delhi, will stand out with its unique festival editions in a year’s calendar.

The organizers of the Tribalhood Festival, group VAY, an acronym comprising of three individuals, Vishwas Tyagi, Auztynn Shimray, and Yanger Toshi having excelled in their respective fields, felt the necessity to provide ample platforms for artists and performers of Northeast India.

The group VAY, aims to build a bridge to usher in due recognition for the multiplicity of talents of the Northeastern region, as well as amalgamate the vibrant diverse cultures in the capital.

Speaking to one of VAY members, he told this reporter that Tribalhood Festival is a festival of editions.

“July 9, 2022 will be the first edition which will be followed by two other edition in the following year, most likely during fall and winter. The festival is planned for each quarter, however this year being the launch year, VAY have decided to limit it to three editions.”

The festival will bring on table and stalls, variety of Northeast rich and diverse cuisines, local handicrafts and handlooms from the eight states of the region–Assam, Tripura, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.

The festival will also offer high notes of musical treat from renowned artists from the region. Sunep Lemtur, Retrosonic a Delhi base alternative rock band, Yanger Toshi, Imna Yaden, Somaya Rumthao are few names with a lot more exciting artists lineup coming up soon.

VAY at a glance

Vishwas Tyagi is a businessman and a philanthropist who not only loves music but also aims in promoting talents, especially from the northeast.

Auztynn Shimray is prominent activist and a social worker who has been tirelessly working for the welfare of the northeastern community for the last decade.

Yanger Toshi is a police officer and a musician who believes in giving the right space to the talents of the northeast and also the advisor of the group.
