Kohima: The new Nagaland government is heading towards an opposition-less government where almost all parties have extended unconditional support to the NDPP-BJP alliance according to news reports.
In the just concluded state assembly polls in Nagaland, the ruling Nationalist Democratic Peoples Party (NDPP) and BJP won a comfortable total 37 seats in the 40:20 alliance seat sharing arrangement. NDPP stacked up 25 seats while BJP won 12 seats in the 60-member opposition-less Nagaland Legislative Assembly polls held on February 27.
Nagaland state became an opposition-less government in September 2021 after legislators and party leaders of NDPP, BJP and NPF, including independent MLAs resolved to adopt the nomenclature, United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Neiphiu Rio on March 4 submitted his resignation as the chief minister of Nagaland to the new governor, La Ganesan.

State President, BJP Nagaland Temjen Imna Along ahead of the oath-taking ceremony to be held on March 7, took to twitter and said he is delighted to receive BJP central leaders in Nagaland.
According to Assam chief minister, Himanta Sarma, prime minister Narendra Modi will attend swearing-in-ceremonies of the new governments in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura. The swearing in for Meghalya is also scheduled for March 7, while in Tripura, it will be held on March 8.
The newly elected MLA of Naga People’s Front, general secretary Achumbemo Kikon told The Indian Express that though a final decision has not been taken, the party, which has two members, is “likely to extend support to the government”.
