Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles on Tuesday apprehended two Myanmar nationals along with 27.90 kg of brown sugar valued over Rs 55 crore ( international market value ).
Troops of 5 Assam Rifles apprehended the two foreign nationals from H Molnom, a Manipur village located near the Indo-Myanmar border where they launched an operation based on specific information today morning, around 4 am, an official source said.
While the frisking and checking operation was in progress, the two youths who came on a Kenbo bike were stopped for checking.

Upon checking a gunny bag they were carrying, the troops detected 648 soap cases containing the illegal drugs.
The drugs weighing 27.903 kg together would worth over Rs 55.86 crore ( international market value), the source said.
During spot verification, the Myanmar nationals identified themselves as Kima (25) and Thara (22). Both hailed from Tamu town of Myanmar.
The apprehended foreign nationals were handed over to Moreh police station of Tengnoupal district along with the recovered contraband drugs for further necessary legal actions, the source added.
