Mahila Congress leader: ‘Strong political will needed to resolve Manipur crisis’

Imphal, July 24: All India Mahila Congress Committee president, Netta Antoinette D’Souza on Monday said that a strong political will is needed for resolving the crisis in Manipur.

The Congress leader was on a three-day visit in Manipur to take ground zero stock of the Manipur situation. She left Imphal today, concluding her visit in the state.

Talking to media at Hotel Yaiphaba Imphal before leaving Imphal, the Congress Mahila president alleged that the Central and the state governments were responsible for the escalation of the violence in the state.

She said that the crisis in the state should be resolved with a strong political will. Otherwise, things will go from bad to worse.

Slamming the state government “for not being able to resolve the crisis and bring an end to the violence”, she said, “The chief minister of Manipur should either solve the problem or leave his position”.

She also strongly condemned the atrocities meted out to the women while observing that women are the most affected section of the society in the ongoing violence.

The Congress leader further said that she was shocked to witness the conditions of the displaced women and children in the relief camps where she had visited during her camping in the state.

“Inmates of the relief camps are facing immense hardship due to non-availability of medicines, hygienic foods and water. The authorities of the state government should address the pathetic conditions of the inmates, particularly the women and children,” she stated.

Responding to a query on a recent viral video of two women who were paraded naked, she said that it was one of the several cases related with atrocities meted out to the women during the violence.
