7 arrested in Manipur’s horrific viral video case

Imphal: Two accused persons including one juvenile were arrested on Monday in connection with the Manipur viral video case of two women on May 4, taking the total to seven, Manipur police said.

The State police is making all-out effort to arrest the remaining culprits by conducting raids at many suspected hide-outs, Manipur police said.

The prime culprit, according to police, identified as Huirem Herodas Meitei (32) seen groping a woman in the viral video was arrested on July 20 morning. Women folk of Pechi Awang Leikai village set on fire [allegedly] house of the accused after vandalising the house.

It is worth noting that the original FIR filed on May 18 was re-registered on June 21 at Nongpok Sekmai PS at 4:31 pm. The FIR mentioned “Unknown miscreants numbering about 900-1000 persons suspected to be members of Meitei Youth Organisations, Meetei Leepun, Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), Arambai Tenggol and World Meitei Council (WMC), Schedule Tribe Demand Committee(STDC) as the accused.

Movement of six hundred sixty-six vehicles on National Highway-37 and one hundred eighty-four vehicles on National Highway-2 with essential items have been ensured, police said.
