Chandel: The Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur has strongly condemned the abduction of Chongthu Memory Aimol, chief of kharam Thadoi village and Thangreng, son of Memory Aimol, at ZEO office in Kangpokpi District at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday by “Kuki militants.“
The ATU, Manipur in its condemnation note issued on Thursday asked, “Does Kuki militants have the full right to abduct any Naga civilians of their wills with automatic weapons inside the Government office. The abduction is highly unethical and their unfounded baseless allegations made to the chief of Kharam Thadoi.”
ATU further stated that it was “due to timely intervention from various section of Naga CSOs, the duo were saved. “We wish the abduction group are well educated and should focus more on accurate information rather then following kitchen matter information,” the condemnation note added.
The Union also said it is “surprised how the abduction took place inside a Government Office.”
It then questioned, “Is Kangpokpi District under Kuki militants and where are the state police and central forces during the incident. The state government should deployed more state forces at Government Office in order to avoid unnecessary incidents in the future. The state government should apprehend those involved in the abduction at earliest.
The Aimol Union also said it “strongly urge the Kuki militants or whoever to restrain from targeting any Aimol Naga civilians and Villages of Aimol at vulnerable areas.”
Appeal not to repeat such “unethical act” in the future and to avoid dragging smaller Naga tribe to be apart of this conflict, the Aimol Tribe Union, appealed for peace.
“Since May 3 of the violence, we Aimol tribe have been maintaining neutrality. If such incident is repeated even after our appeal the responsible group will bear full responsibility of the outcome. At this critical point a small mistake can lead to a large ones. You should be aware of this. Therefore, we Aimol tribe would like to appeal not to repeat such unethical act in the future and not to drag smaller Naga Tribe to be apart of this conflict. We are a peace Loving citizen and we look forward for peace,” added ATU Manipur.
