Ukhrul: Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Chairperson Justice UB Saha made his inaugural visit to Ukhrul district, interacting with District Level Officers (DLOs) and Tangkhul Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) leaders at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall.
Justice Saha emphasized his mission to address human rights violations and basic amenity issues in the Tangkhul community. He urged the Tangkhul community to foster peace between the Meitei/Meetei, Kuki-Zo communities through dialogue, citing their traditional bonds.

Highlighting the ongoing communal conflict’s impact on Manipur’s progress, he appealed to Tangkhul leaders to engage with Meitei/Meetei, Kuki-Zo, and Naga elites to resolve the conflict. Justice Saha stressed that without peace, Manipur, including Ukhrul, cannot develop.
Justice Saha and his team later visited Ukhrul District Hospital, gathering first-hand information on healthcare services.

Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) President Thingreiphy Lungharwo briefed Justice Saha on the law and order situation in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. She expressed concerns over Assam Rifles’ numerous check posts and landmines in border areas, endangering villagers. She also highlighted issues related to education, healthcare, water stress, and basic rights.
Justice Saha advised the leaders to recommend these matters to the state government for action.
The meeting was attended by Ukhrul DC Kengoo Zuringla, SP Ukhrul Karthik Malladi, and leaders from Tangkhul Naga Long, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long, Hunphun Shanao Long, and All Hunphun Tang Association.
