New Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya Arrives for Swearing-In Ceremony

Imphal: Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the Governor-designate of Manipur, arrived in Imphal today. A reception program at Raj Bhavan saw a warm welcome from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh, Ministers, MLAs, and senior officials. Personnel from Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion accorded a Rashtriya Salute.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new Governor is scheduled for 9:30 am tomorrow at Raj Bhavan’s Darbar Hall.

Upon his arrival at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Acharya was welcomed by high-ranking civil and police officers.

Later, the Chief Minister and Assembly members met with outgoing Governor Anusuiya Uikey, thanking her for her contributions during her tenure, particularly in efforts to restore peace and normalcy since last May’s conflict. Uikey expressed appreciation for their cooperation and support, wishing her a long and healthy life ahead.

The Governor-designate of Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, is replacing Anusuiya Uikey, who previously served as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. Anusuiya Uikey took office on February 22, 2023, succeeding La Ganesan.

Meanwhile, two-time Mysuru Member of Parliament and former minister, C.H. Vijayashankar was sworn in as the new Governor of Meghalaya today at Raj Bhavan.
