Ukhrul: Featherheads Haokui, a Ukhrul-based folk-rock band, is set to release its latest music video titled ‘Khamong’ (doorway) on August 13 online.

Founded by Augustine Horchuingam Shimray in 2016, Featherheads Haokui aims to promote and safeguard the culture and oral traditions of the Tangkhul Naga tribe residing in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts of Manipur in India’s northeast region and the Somra tract in Myanmar.

According to Augustine Horchuingam Shimray, the frontman of the band, the upcoming music video is an experimental electro-folk fusion, directed by Shimray himself and videographed by Sorenzan Vashum. The music video will be released on the band’s official YouTube channel at 6 pm, he informed.

So far, the band has released six audio tracks online, and this will be their fourth music video. Additionally, the audio of ‘Khamong’ will be available from August 9 on all major audio streaming platforms.

Talking about the upcoming music video, Shimray shared that ‘Khamong’ is centered around a journey to explore and experience the beauty of Ukhrul, showcasing its rich culture and breathtaking landscapes to viewers.

“‘Khamong’ (Doorway) is a song that seeks to bring out the irony of today’s world where one tends to look at other cultures with more reverence than their own; like how the grass always seems greener on the other side. It addresses the disenchanted state of today’s generation, who have morphed into the mass culture of mass media but remain oblivious of their own origins,” said Shimray.

“It beseeches listeners to shift their perspective, learn to appreciate the small things in life, and live fully. The song is a celebration of one’s identity, the fickleness of life, and the longevity of nature that surrounds us,” he added.

Since its inception, the band has been gaining popularity, especially among younger generations, for promoting unique culture through folk songs blended with rock music and their lively stage performances.

With their upcoming MV, which experiments with electro-folk fusion, it’s welcome news for music lovers and their fans in the region and beyond.
