Ukhrul: Shirley Roy, originally from Manipur, has been reappointed as a Representative of the Indian Embassy in Thailand for Northeast India. Her reappointment reflects her ongoing commitment to assisting visitors and expats from Northeast India living in Thailand and strengthening ties between the two regions, a press release said.

Having lived in Thailand for seven years, Shirley Roy, who is currently based in Phuket, has been a vital resource for the Northeast Indian community, offering various forms of support. “I’m truly honored to continue this work,” she said, emphasizing her eagerness to assist those from her home region.

Community Contributions and Advocacy

Shirley Roy co-founded the North East Indian Society (NEIS), where she serves as General Secretary. Through NEIS, she has built a support network for Northeast Indians in Thailand. Additionally, she recently organized an education event in Bangkok, which drew over 100 attendees, including leaders from the Thai Ministry of Education. At the event, Roy provided insights on opportunities for Northeast Indian women in education and discussed the potential role of AI in enhancing the efficiency of educators.

In times of crisis, Shirley Roy has proven indispensable, helping secure emergency passports for stranded individuals and providing critical support in medical emergencies.
