Kohima, October 21: The Nagaland Police, along with the rest of India, observed Police Commemoration Day on October 21 at the Police Headquarters in Kohima.
The event was led by the Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, IPS, who emphasized that the day is not only a time of mourning but also a celebration of the selfless sacrifice made by police officers across the country.

The origins of this observance dates back to 1959, following a tragic incident during a rescue mission at Hot Springs, Ladakh, where ten Indian policemen were killed, and others were taken prisoner.
DGP Rupin Sharma highlighted that in the past year, 214 policemen across India laid down their lives while ensuring the security and integrity of the country. He also honored four police officers from Nagaland who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

The DGP praised the dedication of Nagaland’s police force, particularly for their efforts in maintaining law and order and conducting peaceful elections, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He urged all police personnel to continue their commitment to serving the nation.
The event included ceremonial honors, with ABSI Nebau Mepfhuo bringing the Nishan Toli, and AIGP (Coordination) Tokavi Achumi reading the Roll of Honor. Wreaths were laid to pay tribute to the martyrs.
