Imphal: In a groundbreaking achievement for Manipur’s healthcare sector, doctors at Little Clinic have successfully performed the state’s first-ever Awake Craniotomy, removing a brain tumor from a 58-year-old patient without anesthesia.
Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Chandrakumar Thounaojam explained that the tumor was located near crucial areas, including the Motor Cortex and Motor Speech regions, presenting a high risk for paralysis or speech loss.

To mitigate these risks, the surgical team opted for the Awake Craniotomy, a complex procedure requiring constant patient monitoring for potential seizures and brain tissue swelling. The surgery, which lasted around four hours, was a success, with the patient showing significant improvement in speech and cognition post-surgery.
This milestone marks a significant advancement in neurosurgical procedures in Manipur, demonstrating Little Clinic’s commitment to pioneering innovative treatments for intricate medical conditions.
