Speaking to the media, Ng. Chunthan, spokesperson for the Naga People’s Organization (NPO), explained that the agitation is a response to continuous harassment and extortion targeting travelers along the highway. He added that daily public complaints reveal that people’s patience has reached its limit.
An alarming incident has further heightened tensions, where two individuals from Senapati district were reportedly attacked with an intent to murder and extorted at gunpoint. In another incident, commercial goods belonging to a Naga woman were allegedly seized by Kukis at CoTU Gate.

Chunthan emphasized that no responsible Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from the involved community have stepped forward to mediate so far. He clarified that the agitation is not aimed at any particular community but insisted that until the relevant CSOs act to ensure accountability and bring the perpetrators to justice under both law and customary practices, the agitation will continue.
As of now, over 200 loaded trucks remain stranded at the border town of Mao Gate and Tadubi area.
Earlier on Tuesday, NPO officials reportedly visited the stranded trucks and informed the drivers that the agitation was in response to the continuous harassment and extortion along the highway. The officials appealed for their cooperation, emphasizing that the agitation was being held to ensure the safety of travelers. The drivers and helpers expressed their gratitude, noting that extortion incidents had increased alarmingly during the current crisis since last year.
