The 40-year-old LW Phaningmi, accused of sexualy assaulting two minor girls has been remanded to police custody for 6 days.
The accused was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ukhru district today around 2:30 pm and will be produced for second judicial remand after 6 days of police custody, an official said.
According to reports, the father of the victim had complained Ukhrul police on the attempted rape and sexual assault. The Officer-in-Charge of Women Police Station, Ukhrul lodged two separate cases for each of the offences under (1) FIR No. 4(9)2021 W-PS/Ukhrul u/s 448 IPC & 8 POCSO Act, 2012, and(2) FIR No. 5(9)2021 W-PS/Ukhrul u/s 366-A IPC & 8 POCSO Act, 2012.
The accused, LW Phaningmi, Son of LW Luinam of Lunghar village, Ukhrul district was arrested by Ukhrul police on Friday after an extensive frisking and checking at Shirui village area, National Highway-202. The accused was found to be reportedly travelling in an Alto car from Lunghar village towards Ukhrul.
According to preliminary statement made by the complainant, the accused allegedly entered the house of the victim on September 28 when the minor was alone in her room attending online class. The accused then allegedly locked the door from inside and started making sexual comment against the minor and tried to overpower the victim as the she escaped the attempted rape.
