Ukhrul, April 29: The All Colleges Tribal Students’ Union, Imphal (ACTSUI) organized a career orientation, cultural meet, and legal awareness program at the Multi-Purpose Hall, D.M. College of Commerce, Imphal.
Held under the theme “Roots to Wings: Embracing Heritage, Aspiring for Excellence,” the program was attended by Dr. I.K. Muivah (IPS), Additional Director General of Police, Manipur; Hannah Kamei (IAS), Director of Tribal Affairs & Hills, Government of Manipur; and Chipemmi Keishing, Director of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. I.K. Muivah stated, “Students need to ask themselves if they are focused on a particular goal in life. Without focus, one cannot achieve success. Students should also write out a logical plan to help them work more practically. Intelligent hard work is required to succeed. Hard work is the tortoise that wins the race. If one finds a certain subject or topic difficult, they should read and reread it multiple times to overcome it. That is the way to finally master a subject, even if it requires hard work.”
He also added that such collective gatherings can foster better relationships among students and encourage each other in the field of education. He emphasized the importance of preserving our rich culture and highlighted the vital role played by youth.
A session on legal awareness regarding Sexual Harassment at the Workplace was also conducted, with Sarungbam Mangaleibi, MJS, Deputy Member Secretary, as the resource person.
She elaborated on the definitions, redressal mechanisms, protections for aggrieved women, penalties, and the overall importance of the Act. She stressed the need for establishing Internal Complaints Committees to address such issues and safeguard women, and appealed to students to approach the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) for free legal assistance.
The event also featured celebrated Manipur artists Thangmeiso Shanglai and Sorri Senjam, who lit up the stage with their superb performances.
