While denouncing the prolonged delay in holding the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, Ex-members of ADCs Ukhrul district in a press conference has slammed the Manipur government, under chief minister N Biren, for the ongoing recruitment process for the District councils.
A member present at the press conference held at 1:30 PM at Shem Rock Woodstock Playschool, Kasomtang on Sunday said, “We strongly condemn the present government’s decision, under CM N Biren Singh, for putting out advertisement for the recruitment of district councils.”
He continued and said in the past, the Hill Areas Committee had filed numerous complaints regarding the recruitment process and the much delayed ADC election but the government took no action and ignored the demand of the committee. “And so we the ex ADCs have come together to express our concern and aggrieve towards the decision of the government”, he added.
In the press conference with media, the ex ADCs expressed resentment adding that the Civil Society Organizations, student bodies and general public are in opposition to the decision taken by the government for recruitment drive, as it goes against the interest of the hill areas and that it completely violates Article 371(c) of the Indian Constitution.
“We strongly condemn the ongoing recruitment drive of the district councils and we believe that such actions taken by bypassing the law is unruly. If the government fails to take proper action we are ready to take legal aid and fight for it”, a member said.
It was voiced in the press conference that the N Biren as the chief minister launched an anti-corruption cell to attain the goal of a clean government. However, the ex ADCs said that at this juncture they strongly condemn the elements of dirty agents and bribery in the recruitment process. “This recruitment process should be cancelled at all cost,” it added.
One of the ex-councilor remarked, “When it is already time for election, why is that N Biren and his government is showing more interest in recruitment? If this is about filling up vacant posts in various departments under the ADCs, why not hold the election immediately?”
During press conference, the attendees condemned the government for holding the recruitment process, while delaying the ADC election.
